Invisalign in Yorkshire

To have Invisalign, you first need to have a consultation with your dentist. They’ll look at your smile, your overall oral health, and take digital scans of your mouth.

A smile simulator will produce a 3D design of the expected end result.

Once the patient is happy to proceed, Invisalign will make the aligners that are unique to your mouth for a custom fit.

Your dentist creates your overall treatment plan and serves as your partner in getting the results you want.

While many patients would make great candidates for Invisalign treatment, complexed orthodontic cases may not be suitable.

Invisalign wear is not painful.

When swapping to a new aligner, you may experience a tight, achy feeling in your teeth. This is because each aligner is effectively the wrong fit for your teeth and your teeth will move to fit each new aligner. This ache should disappear after the first few days and does not usually require any pain relief.

Occasionally people experience some soreness in their soft tissues (lips, cheeks and tongue) as they rub against the edges of your aligners and/or attachments. If this occurs, it usually disappears 4-5 days after your fit appointment as the skin adapts and toughens up.

Toothbrush and water.

Do not use boiling water as it will warp your aligner!

By the time the aligner is beginning to look a little stained it is usually time to swap to your new aligner.

Alternatively, cleaning tablets can be purchased to keep your aligners looking spick and span.

Change your aligners after 7 days of wear.

If your new aligners are still a little tight, wear the current aligners for a further 3-7 days as well as increasing the use of your chewies, then try the next aligners again.

Always keep your old aligners just in case we run into any complications. If you are wearing your aligners all the time other than when eating and drinking, you are more likely be able to change them after 7 days.

Stick one finger in at the back corner of your mouth and unclip the aligner from your back tooth. Do the same on the other side and then peel the aligner away from your teeth.

A reasonable amount of force is required for this so don’t be shy- you will not break your teeth and you will not break your aligners. Over time you will develop your own knack of getting them in and out, but this is a good beginner's guide.

The most common way people lose their aligners is by not putting them in their carry case when they are not wearing them.

Commonly people will go out for a meal and put them in a napkin, and they end up being thrown away. If you place them in their carry case this will not happen.

If you do lose an aligner simply skip to the next aligner if it will fit. If the next aligner does not fit, please contact the practice as soon as possible.

You should only drink water while wearing your aligners.

If you want to drink tea or coffee (without sugar), take the aligners out and rinse with water before putting them back in.

For any other food/drink you will need to brush your teeth before placing your aligners back in.

In most cases the teeth will most likely try and move back to their original position after Invisalign has successfully straightened your smile.

As such, retention is required to maintain the smile in the position we moved the teeth to. The cost of your retainers will be included in your Invisalign quote from your dentist.

Invisalign advise that you wear your retainers every day for the first 6 months following the completion of treatment, and then every night forever or for as long as you want your teeth to remain straight.

We cannot guarantee the longevity of our results unless this protocol is followed.

Fixed retainers (discreet wires attached to the back of the teeth) may also be an option.

We always achieve the result that we were aiming for. Occasionally complications can arise which may prolong the treatment.

There are certain tooth movements that are difficult to achieve so these cases need to be managed carefully.

The main factor that can affect treatment success is that the aligners are not being worn.

If the aligners are living in their box more than on the teeth, we will not achieve our goal. It is essential that unless the patient is brushing their teeth or eating that the aligners are always worn.

It varies according to each patient's needs.

After your initial consultation and records/scan being taken you will have the opportunity to view your case in a 3D simulation to ensure we will be creating the smile you want, this is called a Clincheck and takes 3-4 weeks to create.

At this appointment both the patient and Dentist will review the proposed treatment plan and outcome simulation. We will not accept the case or order the aligners to be made until you confirm you are happy with the case.

Following this appointment, we will give Invisalign the go ahead to create your aligners. Your aligners will then be delivered to us, and we will contact you to arrange your fit appointment.

Following on from this we will review your progress at different intervals depending on what attachments/IPR you may need, this will be discussed with you in more detail.

Typically, you should be happy with the result as you will have previously agreed to what your result would look like at your initial Clincheck appointment.

However, should you wish to do any minor changes or improvements to your smile at the end of treatment, Invisalign have developed ‘refinement’.

Refinements are included in your Invisalign treatment plan.

This gives you the opportunity to fine tune your result. You are entitled to two refinements with your treatment.

These are free of charge and allow us to achieve the best result possible.
